ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard met with representatives from Veterans Administration, leaders of the local veterans organizations, and Georgia Department of Veterans Services Commissioner Pete Wheeler to announce a clearinghouse for veterans next month.

A one-stop counseling and information event to serve Southwest Georgia vets has been scheduled in Albany on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Albany Civic Center

Since 1966, the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, in cooperation with 35 to 40 other local, state and federal agencies have conducted 46 "Supermarket of Veterans Benefits" in 14 cities throughout the state.

Mayor Hubbard issued and signed a proclamation designating December 5 as "Supermarket of Veterans Benefits Day in Albany."
