Bishop says Congress needs to put election behind them

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Second congressional district congressman Sanford Bishop won re-election for his 11th term.

Bishop celebrated victory with dozen of supporters Tuesday night at the Hilton Garden Inn in Albany. He first won the seat in the house of representatives in 1992.

In his acceptance speech, Bishop said Congress must put the election and partisanship aside, to fix many problems facing the country.

"And I pledge that I will do my dead level best to reach across the aisle to work with my colleagues to do what is best for the people of the second congressional district," said Bishop. "The people of Georgia. And the people of America. Because we, you, deserve no less."

Bishop gave a lot of credit for his re-election to the grass roots work by college interns.
