Democratic Rep. Sanford Bishop of Columbus defeated a Republican candidate to win an 11th term in Congress.

On Tuesday Bishop beat John House with 59% of the vote.

In the 2010 midterm elections Bishop had been a top Republican target that he barely won.

However GOP state lawmakers redrew his 2nd District seat last year adding Macon to the Democratic base that already included Columbus and Albany.

The change gave Bishop an infusion of black voters that helps his district lean Democratic.
