BROOKS COUNTY, GA (WALB) -
The two candidates running for Sheriff in Brooks County have life-long careers in law enforcement.
Sheriff Mike Dewey says being the Sheriff is his life and he couldn't imagine doing anything else. He became Sheriff in 2009. His opponent Matt Elsberry currently owns an Information Technology company and has worked as an investigator for both Brooks and Lowndes County Sheriff's Offices.
"I've dedicated my life to Brooks County and law enforcement and I want to see the Sheriff's Department do better and be a department in Brooks County that the people can be proud of," said current Sheriff, Mike Dewey.
Dewey says in the four years he's been Sheriff, the department has arrested more than 3,500 suspected criminals. If he's not re-elected he says he'll go back to farming.
