LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Lee County polling places are seeing a brisk business on election day, but may fall a little short of record turnout seen in 2008.

Voting chief Veronica Johnson tells WALB that  voters have been steadily arriving since the polls opened this morning at 7:00.

Lee Countians turned out at an 80% rate in 2008, and this year officials expect to see about 75%. In 2008, 37% of the electorate voted early, and this year, the number is about 35%.

The Redbone District poll saw over 800 voters by noon.

One of the most interesting races is for the county commission spot held by Rick Muggridge. He faces a challenge from Independent Tim Nelson for the District 4 seat.

In the only other contested Lee race, Democrat Mary Egler is running against Republican Luke Singletary for the District 2 commission seat.
