ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Belk is the latest big retailer to help with Hurricane Sandy relief.

The company announced Monday they're donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross to help victims on the east coast.

They say they chose the Red Cross because they non-profit organization makes a difference during tough times.

"The American Red Cross has a long history of supporting the United States in these types of crisis and supporting countries around the world during these types of crisis and you can count on your dollars going to the right place so that's why we chose the Red Cross," says Belk's Central Georgia Regional Manager Tony Lewis.

Belk is based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

It's the largest privately-owned department store chain in the country.
