ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany-Dougherty Payroll Development Authority sold a building in the industrial park on Newton Road to Better Brands Monday morning.

The building which used to house the Albany Bedding Co. will be expanded to handle increased business for Better Brands, which expects to add more than 50 new jobs to their Albany Payroll.

The company says they needed space after buying Flint Beverage Company on October 1st.

They hope to be fully functioning in the new 70,000 square foot warehouse and 6,500 square foot office by mid summer.

Economic Development Commission chief Ted Clem said that this expansion is great for Albany and Dougherty County.

Clem said that Albany might have lost Better Brands to another city, but because they found the resources they needed here, that's not a danger now.

"All of our employees live here and it keep tax dollars in Dougherty County and Dougherty County has unfortunately lost some businesses over the last few years and I'm just excited that we were able to keep our employee base here. This is where we live," says Better Brands General Manager Larry Pearson.

The company says they plan to add an additional 30,000 square feet to the facility when construction begins.
