ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Over 20 teams, made up of Albany police officers, competed Saturday in the first annual Turkey Bowl.

The police department hosted the bowling tournament at Bowl-A-Rama in hopes of raising money to provide a free hot Thanksgiving Dinner to people in Albany.

Last year, the Family Protection Unit was able to feed around 250 people and they expect to serve over 500 meals this Thanksgiving.

"It allows the community to see the Albany Police Department in another way besides us out there enforcing the law. This is for them to come around and socialize with us and just have fun and just mingle with the police officers," says Chanita Salyer with the Albany Police Department.

The tournament raised over $200 Saturday. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the APD Thanksgiving Dinner on November 20th at the Civic Center.
