ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
A 14-year-old Leesburg boy who's been battling cancer since May, took a break from his fight Saturday night to spend time with friends and family.
Nick Widner was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on May 30th and the family says the expenses driving up to Atlanta for surgery and chemo has been rough on their finances.
That's why friends of the family hosted the "Night out for Nick" event at the Knight's of Columbus in Albany.
People were able to bid on big ticket items like a flat screen TV and a slow cooker grill.
"We have so many people here that have been supportive and there for us the entire time, you know this whole thing was put on by friends and it was something they chose to do for us so it's awesome," says Nick's sister Ivey Clifton.
All proceeds from Saturday's event benefit Nick's medical expenses.
