ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A fair in Albany this weekend taught people how to protect themselves and their families if flooding or severe weather occurs.

The Albany and Dougherty County Flood and Severe Weather Preparedness Fair featured indoor exhibits at the Thronateeska Science Museum.

Organizers say many people who live in Albany today might not have experienced the "great floods" of 1994, and 1998, so they might be unaware of potential dangers.

The fair educated residents on how to be prepare in case severe weather occurs.

"People need to be ready today, they need to be ready for when it happens, they need to be ready with their three day kit, they need to have a plan, and they need to what their risk is for flooding" says Peggy Hegarty, Albany Planning and Development Services.

Agencies participating in the fair include The National Weather Service, MCLB, Emergency Management Agency, Albany Dougherty Search and Rescue Squad and many more.
