As time falls back, change smoke detector batteries

Don't forget to set you clocks back one hour when you go to bed Saturday night.

Firefighters also remind you to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Last year, there were 72 fatal house fires in Georgia.

67 of those people were in homes without working alarms.

Firefighters say the annual change from daylight saving time to standard time is a good reminder to make sure your smoke alarm is working, but it's not the only time you should check.

"Not only do you need to change the battery when it's chirping or when the time changes, you also need to test your smoke alarm once a month. That means climb up there and push that little red button until you hear the beep, just to make sure it's working properly," said AFD Assistant Fire Chief Sebon Burns.

Daylight saving time officially ends Sunday at 2 am.
