VIENNA, GA (WALB) -
There were plenty of people from all generations at this weekend's Big Pig Jig in Vienna including at least one member of America's Greatest Generation.
89-year-old JD Lankford of Broxton was captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge.
He spent six months in a German POW Camp.
He was rescued by General Patton's troops and went on to serve in the Korean War before retiring in 1963.
Lankford says he is hoping that today's generation can learn lessons from what he and his fellow troops went through.
"I want them to remember the price that we paid. Some people don't even realize the price of war don't ever come free. Somebody had to pay and Lord we paid it. That's what I want them to remember," said J.D. Lankford, Former WWII POW.
Lankford wrote a book about his experiences which you can pick up at the Big Pig Jig this weekend at Books a Million stores or on Amazon.com.
