Voters in several South Georgia counties are casting ballots for sheriff.
One of those races is in Colquitt County. Sheriff Al Whittington is seeking a fourth term in office.
He's running as a Republican. He's being challenged by former Damascus police chief Jerry Evers.
Evers says his years of law enforcement experience have him prepared for the job. Whittington says his office is one that serves the people and that's the way he intends to keep it.
"We've made some really good accomplishments, I feel, in the past 12 years that I've been here. We just look forward to improving what we have and improving on what we've done. This is not my sheriff's office, this is Colquitt County Sheriff's Office," said Sheriff Al Whittington, Colquitt County.
"Some of the things I would like to address is the issue of the drug problems and the morale of the current the administration right now. I feel like there needs to be a change," said Jerry Evers, Colquitt Co. Sheriff's Candidate.
Evers also previously worked as Chief of Police in Enigma and Berlin. If re-elected Whittington says he'll continue his office's effort to keep drugs off the street.
