MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -
When Shannon Partain and his girlfriend Patches Branson went into Moultrie Gold Buyers, investigators say their plan of scoring some quick cash went south real quick.
"They actually told them they couldn't take the stuff without an ID. So they left the jewelry there and went to go get an ID," said Investigator Shannon Hart.
Employees there had been tipped off about some stolen jewelry and called the cops.
"At that time we went to the area and waited for them to come back," said Hart.
Despite the jewelry having been stolen, matching the description of that taken during a recent burglary at a home in Hartsfield, the couple returned and were quickly arrested.
The jewelry was just some of the items swiped in the October 22nd burglary.
"Jewelry, guns, TV, computers, approximately $13,000 worth of merchandise was taken from the home," said Hart.
The electronics have not been recovered, but the jewelry, worth thousands of dollars, was identified by its owner.
It wasn't difficult to connect the dots in pinning Branson and Partain to the break-in.
"They have a lengthy criminal history," said Hart.
They can now add burglary charges to that history as investigators work to determine if they're behind other break-ins in the area.
Patches Branson is also facing drug charges. Investigators say she had a small amount meth on her when she was arrested.
Employees at Moultrie Gold Buyers tell me if you're the victim of a burglary and your jewelry is stolen, file a police report then contact area pawn shops.
Sheriff's officials say they work with pawn shops in getting the word out so it's good idea to take pictures of valuables in case they go missing.
