Monroe gets their chance for region

The Monroe football team has made winning the region title their goal since day one in summer practice.

The Tornadoes will look to achieve that goal when they host Cairo in our game of the week.

The Tornadoes have had little margin of error since losing their region opener to Westover.

Since then, Monroe has gone unbeaten in region play to set up tonight's showdown with a Cairo team that is trying to win a third straight region title and hasn't lost a region game in three years.

Tornadoes coach Charles Truitt knows his team has a big challenge tonight but it is challenge they are ready to meet.

"We are in a situation we are hoping we would be in. We have worked hard enough to get to that point. Which team will execute on Friday night is going to be the team that gets the chance to win the region", said head coach Charles Truitt.

"We have a good program. I think we should be able to beat them. We can't slack off. Just got to execute play by play and we will win", said quarterback Charles Stafford.

Monroe's last win in Cairo was six years ago when the Tornadoes won the region title.
