GA superintendent says education improves

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The state school superintendent says education in the peach state is looking up.

Dr. John Barge says SAT scores jumped seven percent last year.

But he says the graduation rate was adjusted downward to about 69 percent because of a change in how federal standards are applied

Although Georgia is looking good, he says there is always room for improvement

"Let's say talk about graduation rates for example we have significantly improved graduation rates over the past several years but no one wants to say a 67.4 percent," said Dr. John Barge, State School  Superintendent.

He says they also need to work on closing the achieving gap between white and black students.
