ADEL, GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia man and his hound dog are celebrating a prestigious hunting title.

Jason Bullard and his appropriately named dog Awesome are from Adel.

In the world of coon hunting, The PKC World Championship is the super bowl of the sport. After six days of coon hunting in Illinois, Jason Bullard and his hound dog Awesome can finally enjoy their champion title.

"It was great, I just can't explain it. I've probably never been quite that excited especially as far as hunting goes, it was definitely the thrill," said Jason Bullard, PKC World Championship Winner.

Bullard says the competition was exhausting. It started last Monday with more than 1,100 entrants, and by Saturday the best three went head to head and Jason and Awesome came out the winners.

"They actually scored his coon with two minutes left in the hunt, is when he took the lead to win it. There were two minutes left," said Bullard.

No raccoons were actually killed during the hunt, the dogs track the raccoons and chase them up trees. Awesome treed 10 raccoons to win the title.

Bullard has even gotten his 12-year-old daughter involved in the sport.

"I'm going to leave the competition hunting to my dad, but I'm going to stick to the pleasure hunting," said Jill Bullard, Jason Bullard's Daughter.

Bullard will keep his championship ring but he probably won't see much of the $27,000 prize money.

"I'd say these girls will probably take a lot of it to the mall," said Bullard.

Bullard plans to enter Awesome in next years hunt too.

Awesome's handler Randy Leonard of Virginia also helped in the hunt.
