THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -
20-year-old Francisco Antonio Rangel and 79-year old Leon Collins were arrested for separate cases involving sexual assault in Thomas County.
Investigators say Rangel was arrested after a 7-year-old girl child was interviewed and examined by a sexual assault nurse at The Treehouse, a Thomasville facility where children in such cases are interviewed and examined.
Police say Rangel did make a partial admission to what the victim reported. Police say Rangel did know the girl before the sexual assaults took place, but they are not releasing what that relationship was.
Rangel is charged with child molestation, rape, and aggravated child molestation. Rangel was charged and arraigned Wednesday and was denied bond.
Police say Leon Collins will be arraigned Thursday for child molestation. Police say Collins asked a 10-year-old boy who was walking near his Dillon Road home to help him with some house work.
The child agreed, but police say the 79-year-old is accused of inappropriately touching the boy while he was in Collins' home.
Collins told investigators his home surveillance system would prove his innocence.
"He had a video tape of the incident because he had surveillance cameras around his house. Mr. Collins then took law enforcement out to his house, showed them a copy of the video. We reviewed the video with the District Attorney's Office. And after the District Attorney's office viewed the video, it was agreed to charge Mr. Collins," said Lt. Tim Watkins.
The child was also taken to the Treehouse Children's Advocacy Center to be interviewed and examined. Collins was denied bond and remains in the Thomas County Jail.
The Thomas County Sheriff's Office made the arrests and are in charge of both investigations.
