ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The future for the Dougherty High football program looks bright with sophomore quarterback Michael Whatley.

Whatley is presented with this week's WALB Albany Area Player of the Week award from Dr. James Mason.

Whatley threw for five touchdowns in last week's thrilling game against cross-town rival Westover.

The Patriots came away with the win but Whatley says the Trojans performance lets them know they are beginning to turn the tide to get back into region title contention under first year coach Corey Joyner.

"To stick with a team that is going to the playoffs it is really good. We just have to stay focused. Just do what we have got to do what we do the field Thursday", said Dougherty High quarterback Michael Whatley.

Dougherty will play Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. against Americus-Sumter.

The game will be played at Hugh Mills Stadium.
