ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
The American Cancer Society is looking for men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer to participate in its Cancer Prevention Study-3. Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital is helping sign up south Georgians.
The study will help researchers better understand the lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.
Program directors say the study is vital to Southwest Georgia. "It's important for rural Southwest Georgia because we see a lot of cancer here. A lot of disparities right here in southwest Georgia so it's very important for people that live here in Americus, Lee County and Albany to come and participate in the study," said Research Program Manager Keisa Mansfield.
To participate, you have to go through an initial basic checkup then fill out an annual survey. Registration began Tuesday afternoon at Phoebe Northwest. It continues there Wednesday from 7 a.m. to noon. Find out more information here: http://cancer.org/cps3
