Second Harvest to send more than 3k gallons of water up north

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Second Harvest of South Georgia plans to send 3,700 gallons of water to the disaster zone left by Hurricane Sandy.

We learned 18 pallets of water will be shipped from the Albany warehouse on Clark Avenue to Island Harvest Food bank in New York.

Boxes of six, 1-gallon jugs will be given to families.

Second Harvest officials say they're glad to help.

"It is vital after these hurricanes with flooding water, you can think of the bacteria and mold that comes. Drinking water is unsafe. Washing your dishes, this is what this water is for. We're just happy that we had some on hand to respond to the national disaster that's hit New York, Philadelphia and New Jersey," said Branch Director Jim Case.

The Albany facility likely will send pallets of bleach to the area later this week.
