Mission: Change still awaiting damage assessment in Bahamas

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The founders of an Albany charity say bad weather is still preventing them from sending aid to a hurricane-damaged island in the Bahamas where they used to do mission work.

LaDonna Urick with Mission Change says reliable damage assessments in that country still aren't available.

Urick says more than likely the group will send roof shingles and tarps to help people in the Bahamas whose homes suffered damage from Sandy.

Urick says helping people in need is what the organization is all about.

"Being able to serve someone across waters is pretty amazing, so we're excited to be able to hear what we can do. We're sad for the lives that were lost. It's just one of those things where you pull together and help your neighbor and they're our neighbors," said Urick.

Urick said Mission Change may also collect supplies to send to the northeast after Sandy passes through the area.
