TY TY, GA (WALB) -
Dust and unanswered questions are all that remain from the crime scene on Cherry Road in Ty Ty where 35 year-old Arlester Jackson, also known as "Hammerhead", was murdered around 10:30 Saturday night.
Now family members gather to mourn the loss of their beloved family man.
"He loved his family, he loved to cook, so you know the way he died, it wasn't called for," says Jackson's cousin Carolyn Golson.
Family members say Jackson spent his last moments in a chair in an empty lot right off Cherry Street before being gunned down by the shooter - a life taken too soon.
"He did things that he wasn't suppose to do but he paid for them. He paid for what he did. But I still don't think he should have died the way he did, it was tragic, he shouldn't have died like that," says Golson.
Tift County Coroner Steve Wood says Jackson was pronounced dead on the scene when investigators arrived. The case is still under investigation and officials remain tight-lipped about what happened. But witnesses say Jackson was shot to death.
"The trigger man that shot him just came from on the side of him and shot him in the head and shot him multiple times and unloaded his gun on him," says Jackson's cousin Shantae James.
Authorities are still searching for the suspect and his family says they won't stop until they find his killer.
"Lester wasn't a bad person. Everyone has had their day and time where everybody has done bad but he didn't have to kill Lester like that. And we want him found and I hope to God they find him before we find him," says James.
Jackson's body will be taken to the crime lab in Macon on Tuesday where they will perform an autopsy.
A motive hasn't been released. The Tift County Sheriff's Department is working the murder. We called them to get information on what happened, but they are not releasing anything yet.
