ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Folks in Albany danced the day away at the YMCA, all for a good cause.

In recognition of "Meet the Blind Month," the Southwest Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Georgia is having a Zumba party fund raiser.

Blanche Griffin was the driving force behind this fundraiser. She is an active YMCA member who is visually-impaired.

The purpose of the event is to promote awareness and educate the community about diabetes and blindness.

"Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, and we have glaucoma, there is a lot of blind people here in our community so I am letting them know, I am changing what it means to be blind, and you can still be highly functional," said Blanche Griffin, National Federation of the Blind Member

A healthy diet along with exercise can reduce the risk of diabetes which causes blindness.
