
The unemployment rate in Albany and Southwest Georgia declined in September. The Georgia Department of Labor announced the numbers this morning.
Albany's unemployment rate is at 9.4 percent. Southwest Georgia's unemployment rate is at 9.0 percent. GDOL says the rate in Albany fell because of 148 fewer layoffs in manufacturing, construction, administrative, and support services.
The rate fell in Southwest Georgia because of 340 fewer layoffs in manufacturing, construction, retail trade, transportation and warehousing, administrative and support services.
Also more than 1,000 Southwest Georgians were employed. The state's unemployment rate is 9.0%. The nation's unemployment rate is 7.8%.
