VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta's South Georgia Medical Center is taking over Berrien County Hospital.

Today, the Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County announced it has purchased the hospital in Nashville.

Near the end of February, the Authority will take ownership of the hospital, including the Primary Care Practice and the Urgent Care Walk-in Center.

"The owners of that hospital were looking to liquidate the hospital portion and maintain ownership of the nursing home on the same campus, and were looking for a reasonable partner to liquidate that hospital to, and has been in conversation with us for the past several months," said Randy Sauls, SGMC CEO.

The hospital's 120 employees will be offered employment by South Georgia Medical Center.
