WILCOX CO., GA (WALB) -

A former south Georgia sheriff pleads guilty to assaulting inmates and conspiring to cover it up.

Federal prosecutors announced Monday that former Wilcox County Sheriff Stacy Bloodsworth admitted he ordered three inmates out of their cells, hit all three, and watched as other people kicked and hit one inmate.

His son, Austin Bloodsworth, also pleaded guilty to conspiring to cover up the crime. Three other people previously pleaded guilty to charges related to the July 2009 assaults.

Bloodsworth resigned in February. He faces up to 15-years in prison when he's sentenced.
