Citizens meeting informs, educates

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Folks in Thomas County will have the opportunity to meet their candidates and learn about the issues Tuesday night.

The 15th citizens meeting will feature several candidates for local and state offices including state representative, sheriff, and tax commissioner.

The event will open with a discussion from both sides about the charter school constitutional amendment.

"Since public schools were founded in Georgia in 1872, local boards of education have been in charge of operating public schools. So this is a seat change in terms of who has authority over public schools in Georgia. So it's a major change," said Thomas County Superintendent Dusty Kornegay.

The event is sponsored by the Thomasville Times-Enterprise and starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Of Education Auditorium.
