THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Current and potential future alumni from one North Florida college are invited to a south Georgia event this weekend.

The Thomas County chapter of the FAMU Alumni Association is hosting a celebration rally Sunday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville.

Alumni, students, and the community are invited to attend.

"The purpose of this event is to develop an awareness of all the dynamic activities that have taken place at Florida A & M and the services they are rendering to our community," said Chairperson Hazel Jones.

"We're hoping to attract the alumni from across the southwest Georgia area. We are also hoping to attract young people who have ideas of attending Florida A & M University. And we are also hoping to have those that are just supporters of the university," said PR Manager Michael Bryant.

The event begins Sunday at 5pm.
