Monsanto workers are working safely

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

Agriculture can be a dangerous line of work.

Thursday a company with an office in Leesburg was recognized for its safety record.

Monsanto's Lee County facility was given an award from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The facility not only meets OSHA safety standards, it also received an award from the company for exceeding federal guidelines.

Managers take pride in their safety record and say that extends into the community.

"It's a satisfying accomplishment, that is not only satisfying to us but to our families.  Because our whole objective is to come to work, to do our job and to go home safely to our families at night.  And then be able to get up and come to work the next day," said Steve Jenkins.

Jenkins says that the Lee County facility has gone more than 1500 days without an accident.
