Extra helping hands at Expo

MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

The Sunbelt Expo is one of the biggest farm shows in the country, so it may surprise you that the Expo only has a half dozen workers on staff.

Only six employees work year-round for the Expo.

Another half dozen work there one month out of the year.

That means the responsibility of hosting tens of thousands of people over three days largely falls to nearly 200 temporary workers on the job this week.

Expo officials say the event would never run so smoothly without them.

"We couldn't do it without the great temporary help that we have.  Whether it be the forklifts, parking security, registration, courtesy cars, shipping and receiving.  The list goes on and on," said Chip Blaylock, the Executive Director of the Sunbelt Ag Expo.

Blaylock says most of the temporary work force is made up of retirees or people who get the week off from work at their regular jobs.
