Albany,GA -

The historic Post Office branch in downtown Albany may remain open until June.

The property manager says the U.S. Postal Service called her today, saying they will extend the lease for six months.

The post office was originally set to close on December 2nd when the lease expires. City and county leaders are lobbying to keep it open.

The property manager is hoping a private company will eventually be able to run the downtown post office to prevent it from closing for good.

We've been unable to confirm the details with the U.S. Postal Service.
