VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Paramedics at South Georgia Medical Center hope to save more lives with new state of the art heart monitors.

They cost $30,000 dollars each and are the latest machines to monitor a patient's heart and breathing on the way to the hospital.

The SGMC ambulances are the first in South Georgia to have the new equipment.

"With heart attack patients, it becomes very important to engage the cardiologist immediately from the field and try to give him a great picture of what's going on with that patient so they can activate the cath lab and cath team," said Jeremy Norman, SGMC EMS Asst. Chief.

The monitors will be installed in 14 ambulances November 1st.
