An Albany man is dead after falling off the top of an SUV in what is known as a "car Surfing" incident.

Georgia State Patrol officials say it happened at 12:30 Sunday morning.

Authorities say 29-year-old Kristen Richardson of Albany was driving her 2001 Ford Explorer on Shady Road in North Mitchell County, while 28 year-old Brandon Wood and 31-year-old Brandon Brown were riding on top, also known as 'car surfing.'

Officials say Wood fell backwards onto the dirt road and suffered injuries to his head and neck. After he fell authorities say the driver hit the brakes and Brown, who's from Baconton fell forward and injured his arm.

Both were taken to Archbold Memorial hospital in Thomasville. The Thomas County Coroner says Wood was pronounced dead at three o'clock this afternoon.

Alcohol was a factor in the accident. Charges are pending until the investigation is complete. Mitchell County Sheriff's office is assisting with the investigation.

We'll have more on this story as it develops.
