ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
The candidate who was defeated by John House for the Republican nomination for Georgia's Second Congressional District race has endorsed House.
House is running against Democrat Sanford Bishop, who has not faced a serious challenge to his seat in recent elections.
Allen was endorsed by Albany area state legislators, but failed to edge House in the July primary.
Bishop, a Columbus native, has served in the congress since 1992, having turned back every challenger.
Here is Rick Allen's news release-
I would like to congratulate US Congressional Candidate John House for running a strong, and well laid out campaign that has led to his being the republican nominee in Georgia's Second Congressional District race. John is a well qualified, pro-constitution conservative who has a deep understanding of the importance of restoring the foundational principles that have made our country prosperous and free, and he believes our individual rights must be preserved. I had the unique opportunity to be in John's presence on many occasions while running against him in the recent republican primary and I can verify that he promoted many values and issues that I similarly espouse. A strong military, the restoration of morality and accountability in government, fiscal responsibility, American energy independence, lower taxes, common sense small business solutions for increased job growth, and a strong belief in American Exceptionalism are core issues I believe we both share. John believes that all the citizens of the second district do want and deserve a better future, and believe as I do, that a true conservative who will represent all constituents equally, and will fight against excessive regulations, while breaking down barriers that are blocking job creation, will be able to turn this district around and set the course for a bright economic future. Lives and dreams have been put on hold because of poor representation that has advanced the negative policies of the Democratic Party, which have failed miserably, and have led the district in the wrong and declining direction of poverty, hopelessness, and increased dependence.
From traveling through SW Georgia I know there is much uncertainty and despair about what the future holds among voters, but I want to assure them that I have extreme confidence that John House is the right candidate, at the right time, who can make a positive difference in fairly and effectively representing their lives and aspirations in Washington, and will fight for positive change and a better future for all the citizens of SW Georgia. For these reasons I would like to heartily endorse the candidacy of John House, who I feel is eminently qualified, and will do a great job serving as the next US Representative for the Second District of Georgia.
Rick Allen, Columbus Former 2012 Candidate for US Congress Georgia District 2
