ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. And Saturday, one woman in Albany held a unique event to educate the community.
Sharon Lyles, along with friends and family, released hundreds of balloons this afternoon in honor of loved ones who were lost to breast cancer.
Lyles says her mother and grandmother had breast cancer at the age of 59 and she wants to educate others on ways to protect yourself.
"I'm not only recognizing breast cancer but all cancers. Breast cancer is celebrated the whole month of October, other cancers aren't so today I'm focusing on breast cancer and all types of cancers," says Lyles.
Along with releasing balloons, Lyles handed out educational pamphlets to educate others about the disease.
