TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

The job market is tough right now - especially for college students without much work experience.

State officials and colleges are trying to help by holding job fairs like the one at Moultrie Technical College's Tifton campus Thursday.

Devin Carter is a freshman at the college, majoring in Geographic Information Systems.

"I really enjoy computers and there seems to be a large need for it," he said.

Today he traveled to Conference Center at the Tifton campus of MTC. There around 50 employers were on hand to see - and be seen by - potential employers.

Bridgett Adams is with the college's Career Services Department.  She said, "it's very concentrated so they get to see employers of all types."

For college students, getting jobs is still not a sure thing.  Carter had heard all of the horror stories but was pleasantly surprised by what he found today.

"I figured there wouldn't be too many.  At least not that many with jobs that I could have."

Employers like Tift Regional Hospital are here to hire.

Judy Morey, RN is the Clinical Recruiter for the hospital.  She said, "we employee more as we add services. Like we added Cook Medical Center so our employment is up."

And they're not alone.

The job market, especially for college students has been very stressful the last few years, but all of the people here seem much more excited about job prospects for these students in the years ahead.

Getting qualified employees for those employers who are looking to hire is what job fairs like this one are all about.

"It's part of our role as career services," said Adams.

Even potential employers are noticing that their neighbors at this fair are doing more than window shopping.

"You can look around and see how many employers are looking for jobs. So I think it's still promising for those that are still looking," said Morey.

Devin is hoping that some of the employers that he saw today will still be looking to hire him when he graduates.

Moultrie Tech will hold another job fair in April at its Moultrie campus.

It will also be open to students and the general public.
