The Sumter County Board of Education voted in a called meeting Wednesday night to fire Americus-Sumter head football coach and athletic director Michael Pollock.
The vote came after lengthy employee hearing.
Following that hearing, the board met in executive session for approximately 15-20 minutes before returning to the open floor where they voted 4-1 with two members abstaining to fire Pollock.
Michael Pollock was placed on informal suspension one month ago when he kicked a player in the rear end in practice.
Pollock was asked to resign and when he didn't the board placed him on paid leave.
Michael Pollock coached just two games in what was his third season.
His record was 14-11.
He led the Panthers to second place finishes in region 1-AAA in both seasons and also to the state playoffs in both years.
This season, Americus-Sumter moved up to 1-AAAA due to the GHSA reclassification.
Late Wednesday, Michael Pollock called his dismissal unfortunate but he is glad everyone can now move on.
He says he wishes the Panthers football team the best in the rest of the season.
Offensive coordinator Chris Wade will remain acting head coach at Americus-Sumter for the rest of the season.
