Dougherty County School Board members have not made a decision about the future of school superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree.

The board voted to go behind closed doors moments after their 10 o'clock meeting convened.

They were discussing Murfree's three-year contract, which expires in June 2013.

He was hired in March 2010 by a sharply divided school board.  About thirty minutes into executive session, the board opened up the meeting and quickly adjourned.

No decision was made on Murfree's status, but the board can either terminate, renew or extend his contract.

"If they terminated any administrators or teachers contract during the course of the contract that produces a hearing, some of the ones that we've all been through with the CRCT.  I don't think that's anything that was under discussion or likely to happen," said Tommy Coleman, School board attorney

Even though board members can discuss and deliberate behind closed doors, any action or vote they take must be done in public view.

The Dougherty County School System has been under fire recently, after the CRCT cheating investigation and state and federal investigations into the use of Title One money and the free or reduced lunch program.
