About 100 soldiers are scheduled to return to Fort Benning in Georgia after a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. The unit is made up of soldiers assigned at Fort Benning and medical personnel from throughout the Army.More >>
Some people in Morgan say they'll fight to save a small wall around the Calhoun County Courthouse.
There was talk that this brick coping would be torn down as part of a downtown square renovation project.
Morgan City leaders now say it would cost $100,000 to replace it with a metal fence and they don't have that kind of money.
Some residents told us they're relieved to hear the news.
City officials are now making new plans for the copings.
"It's not my interest to cost the county money. I don't want to do that. We're going to repair the copings, paint it and try to make it look beautiful. It's probably 100 years old, so that's going to be a difficult task, but we're going to work on it," said Clerk of Superior Court Karen Taylor.
The city got a grant for courthouse square improvements that include new sidewalks and lighting.
A new drainage system would have forced the copings to be torn down, but city leaders say they have no intentions of doing that.
