ASU hosts vigil in memory of Taylor Terrell

Demetri Nader Demetri Nader
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany State University students, faculty and staff came together for a candlelight vigil to remember 20-year-old Taylor Terrell, Tuesday night.

The ASU student drowned in the Flint River more than three weeks ago.

The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation.

It was hard for some to hold back tears, as the ASU family remembered a fallen Golden Ram.

"Taylor was a funny guy. I remember one chapter meeting we counted how many times he said ‘like' and he said ‘like' 150 times," said Phi Beta Sigma President Ken Nesbitt.

After words of encouragement from ASU officials and students, the crowd went to the quad of the campus and lit a candle in memory of Terrell.

"I know this has been a very tough time, so we just wanted to make sure that we celebrated Taylor's life and show honor to his family and friends," said SAG President Clarence Washington.

"We just have to take all of the time that we can to appreciate our lives and continue to do what we have to do," said Demetri Nader.

Demetri Nader grew up in the same house as Terrell for majority of his life and although he says he appreciates all of the support from the ASU family, he still has a void to fill as the circumstances leading up to Terrell's drowning in the Flint River are still under investigation.

"I don't have closure yet because we don't know what happened. I probably won't have closure until we know if he was on something or if anybody had something to do with it," said Nader.

Nader says if anybody has any information he begs them to come forward.

"I just hope they can be honest and come forward or if the police do find anything, may God be with everybody," said Nader.

Until then, the ASU family will move forward with their heads held high and Terrell in their hearts.

An autopsy confirmed Terrell drowned, but investigators say they still don't know whether his death was suicide, accidental or homicide.

If you have any information about Terrell's death, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 436-TIPS.
