Texting & driving simulator comes to VSU

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta State Students now have a better understanding of just how dangerous texting and driving can be.

The Office of Health Promotions brought the PEERS Awareness texting and driving simulator to the campus Monday.

Dozens of students sat in the car and typed a text message while driving on a virtual road.

Many students failed the test, hitting pedestrians and cars they didn't see coming.

"I was over the speed limit like three times, and I hit somebody, so that's not good," said student Malcome Meyers.

"Make the phone call if it's that serious, just put the phone down," said student Derrell James.

The simulator is on a college campus tour. It's heading to Alabama next to continue showing students the dangers of texting and driving.
