The Thomas County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday morning to purchase three new fire trucks at $250,000 each.
They also voted unanimously to purchase four more trucks, at a price to be negotiated later.
The board says these purchases are necessary to meet ISO standards. The first three will be here in 45 days. It will take about eight months to build the next four.
A hired fire consultant said the county needed to purchase seven new fire trucks to maintain its current fire safety rating from the Insurance Services Office.
"They weren't being recognized anymore by the ISO and number two is our repairs are out of the roof trying to maintain those older trucks," said Emergency Service Chair Moses Gross.
The first three trucks should be on the roads in 45 days.
If that rating slips, insurance companies will charge people more for their homeowners' policies.
