FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) -

Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald is planning several events as part of breast cancer awareness month.

Organizers call it Shades of HOPE Cancer Awareness.

The events include a Women's Health Seminar on October 11 at 6 p.m. and a 5-K and one mile fun run on October 20 at 8:45 a.m. to encourage people to take advantage of Fitzgerald's Oncology Center and getting tested early.

"Goal through this whole month is to educate. Educate parents on childhood cancers, educate females on female cancers, trying to get people to come get mammograms, trying to get people to come see their physicians once a year because there is so much cancer in our community," says Director of Communication Relations, Jenny McCranie.

The hospital is offering free breast cancer screenings the whole month of October.
