ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty County Commission is a step closer to making sure one of their members serves on the library board of trustees.

Monday, the Government Affairs Committee presented the commission with a three-pronged recommendation.

They want to add at least one commissioner to the library board and request trustees come before the commission with a full report before the end of the year.

The last part of the recommendation is to delay the appointment of the commissioner(s) until the end of the year, when those on the library board will decide if they want to renew their term.   If all the members plan on staying on the board, they will discuss adding an additional member.

"It comes on the heels of us not being aware of the closing of the new libraries until after the vote.  And we hope to prevent that from happening in the future with improved lines of communications," said Gloria Gaines, Dougherty County Commissioner.

Commissioner Gaines says they'll wait until the end of the year to see if the current members decide to renew their terms.

The full commission is expected to vote on the plan Monday.
