Golf tournament helps Dougherty Co. children's charities


Dozens of golfers took to the links Monday to help Dougherty County children's charities.

The 16th Annual Charles H. Smith Golf Tournament put on by the Dougherty County Kiwanis Club teed off this afternoon at the Stonebridge Golf Club. 

54 golfers took part and corporate sponsors provided cars as hole in one prizes and a $100, 000 dollar shootout for the closest to the hole winners. 

But the real winners will be Albany charities that serve kids.

"All the money's going to go back to a variety of charities, back in the community.  A bunch of different charities like Megan's House and Graceway that will end up sending money back into the community," said Lance Barnes, Dougherty Co. Kiwanis Club President.

The tournament is named in honor of Charles H. Smith a Dougherty County Kiwanis Club member and former state Kiwanis president.
