TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

A Tifton middle school teacher is using real world examples to motivate his students to work hard in school.

8th Street Middle School students got two unique demonstrations on Monday. NASA donated a space shuttle heat tile to the school.

Gene Fandel wanted to show the students such an amazing piece of technology in hopes that it will motivate them to get better grades in school.

"To show these kids that math, science, language arts, your technical skills are very important, if they want to do something like this, or in any field, so we want to show the kids that no matter what they are pursuing that grades are important," says Gene Fandel, Teacher.

"You can have like a goal, like if you want to do this, then you need to try hard and make good grades," says Emily Futch, Student.

The students also got a demonstration from life flight, a medical transport service.
