ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

In just two days, two homes in Worth County are destroyed by fires and one man is left dead. Now firefighters are making sure people know how to get out of their house if a fire sparks.

Sunday, kicks of fire prevention week. About 3,000 Americans die in residential fires every year. As a part of Fire Prevention week, fire department's across the country are hosting fire safety workshops. Fire personnel around Georgia will be spreading the word about the dangers of home fires and teaching residents how to plan and practice an escape from a home in case of a fire.

"What we try to do is emphasize two ways out of each room of your home especially for the kids, for example two ways out of your bedroom may be the door and the window," says Cpt. Billy Davis, Albany Fire Dept.

Captain Davis says one of the most important things you can do is make sure you have working smoke alarm in your home. Each year the Albany Fire Department puts on an instructional show for kids as part of Fire Prevention Week. The show is Wednesday from 9:30 in the morning until 11 at the Civic Center.
