A group on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation recently received a $70,000 grant to advance farming and healthy food efforts for the Oglala Sioux tribe. In response, Massage School San Diego, a proponent of healthy living, raw organic foods and massage therapy schools in San Diego, has released a list of the best healthy crops to plant in the fall season.
Lakota Funds, a nonprofit organization located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, recently received a $70,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as reported by KDLT news. The grant will serve to improve the Oglala Sioux tribe’s access to healthy food by developing a local farmers marketing and helping reservation farmers.

The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is a Native American reservation in South Dakota for the Oglala Sioux tribe. Established in 1889, Pine Ridge was originally a part of the Great Sioux Reservation. The reservation has a total land area of more than 3,400 square miles, encompassing all of Shannon County and parts of Jackson and Bennett counties. Total population on the reservation is 28,700 people.
Oglala Sioux, also called the Oglala Lakota, is a Native American tribe that lives on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. It is a sub-tribe of Lakota, a part of the Great Sioux Nation. The tribe has 42,357 enrolled members as of 2008, and its official languages are Lakota and English. Origins of the tribe date back to the 19th century, when its members separated from the other factions of Lakota.
South Dakota, situated in the Midwest area of the United States, is the 17th largest state in the U.S., encompassing more than 77,000 square miles. Named after the Sioux Indian tribes, Lakota and Dakota, South Dakota was the 40th state to join the Union. Its total population is just 824,000, and its current governor is Dennis Daugaard, a republican. The state’s capital city is Pierre, though its most populated city is Sioux Falls. South Dakota is considered a part of the U.S. Great Plains region.
