ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

It's not your everyday burglary. Thieves stole thousands of dollars worth of human hair from a Dawson Road business.

The owner says it's a high priced item as valuable as gold.

Cedric McClendon says his finance's dream came true when she opened the hair store on Dawson Road only to see it targeted by smash 'n' grab thieves.

Just weeks after opening, Albany's newest hair boutique "Kiss Hair Bliss" is already packing up and moving out.

"It boils your blood a little bit," said Cedric McClendon.

He says the hair the burglars took is a hot commodity.

"People will pay a lot a lot of money for this hair," he said.

Burglars smashed the front window of the store, stole cash and $6,000 worth of hair.

""hey took enough hair to pretty much take care of a whole cheer leading squad," McClendon joked. But he says the crime does not surprise him.

"We always use the term..'this hair is like gold'..that's why so many people want it," he said.

They've been slammed with customers since opening. You can choose from Peruvian, Brazilian or even Moroccan style hair and it lasts for an entire year.

"We just use the term hair because that's what it is," said McClendon. "100% human hair."

But he says they are not letting this break in get them down.

"You just got to keep faith and keep moving," he says.

And they did move. He and his fiancee packed up and set up shot in a bigger store inside the Albany Mall.

They are located behind Natural Hair Wonders in the mall and they are already taking customers.

No arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 436-TIPS.
